Problema Solution

Two card leave an intersection. One car travel north ,the other travel east. When the car travel north had gone a distance twice the distance of the car heading east ,the distance between the cars was 4km more than 3 the distance travelled by the car heading east. Find the distance between the cars at that time.

Answer provided by our tutors

Let

'x' represent the distance of the car heading east, x>=0

'2x' will represent the distance of the car heading north

4 + 3x will represent the distance between the cars

Using the Pythagorean Theorem we can write:

x^2 + (2x)^2 = (4 + 3x)^2
