Problema Solution
Two siblings get bags of Jelly Beans and start eating them at different speeds. After a while Maya has 3 times as many Jelly Beans as her brother Tommy. If Maya is given 20 more beans by a friend, she will have 7 times as many beans as Tommy. How many Jelly Beans does Tommy have?
Answer provided by our tutors
Let 'x' represent the number of Jelly Beans that Tommy has.
Then we can say that Maya has '3x' Jelly Beans (3 times as many as Tommy).
If Maya is given 20 more beans then she will have '3x + 20' Jelly Beans and that is equal to 7 times x (the amount that Tommy has).
3x + 20 = 7x
