Answer provided by our tutors
d = 12.5 mi the distance to the store
2d = the distance to the store and back
v = 35 mph the speed
We need to find 't' the time of the trip and see if it is bellow 45 minutes.
Since v = d/t we have t = d/v.
Plug the values into t = d/v:
t = 12.5/35 hr
t = (12.5/35)*60 min
t = 21.43 min is the time Tyrone needs to travel in one direction
The time needed to the store and back is double that time:
2*21.43 = 42.86 < 45
This means that Tyrone is able to make the trip to the store and back in less than 45 minutes.
