Problema Solution

You are building a fence around an area that is 41' 6'' by 24' 8''. The Fence panels you want are 2.5m in length. How many fence panels will you need to buy, to enclose the whole area, if you need to leave a 1yd gap for a gate?

Answer provided by our tutors

1 ft = 0.3 m

1 in = 0.025 m

41' 6'' = 41*0.3 + 6*0.025 = 12.45 m

24' 8'' = 24*0.3 + 8*0.025 = 7.4 m

1 yd = 0.9144 m

The perimeter of the area is: 2*(12.45 + 7.4) = 39.7 m

We subtract the length of the gap and get: 39.7 - 0.9144 = 38.7856 m

Let 'x' represent the number of Fence panels needed.

2.5*x = 38.7856

........

x = 15.51 panels

Since the number of panels is an integer, the number of panels needed is the smallest integer that is bigger than 15.51, or 16 panels.
