Problema Solution
At a frog exhibit, 3/5 of the frogs are bullfrogs, 2/3 of the remainder are tree frogs, and the rest are river frogs. There are 36 bullfrogs in the exhibit. How many river frogs are there? Write an expression for the number of river frogs in terms of the other types of frogs.
Answer provided by our tutors
Let
x = the number of bullfrogs
y = the number of tree frings
z = the number of river frogs
There are 36 bullfrogs in the exhibit:
x + y + z = 36
3/5 of the frogs are bullfrogs:
x = (3/5)*36
2/3 of the remainder are tree frogs:
y = (2/3)(36 - x)
y = (2/3)(36 - (3/5)*36)
The rest are river frogs:
z = 36 - (x + y)
z = 36 - ((3/5)*36 + (2/3)(36 - (3/5)*36))

........
z = 4.8 river frogs
There are 4.8 river frogs.
