The problem statement contains errors because y can not be set equal to both 5.5 and 5.6... we would assume that '=' in the statement should be either ">=" or "<="... the problem should also specify whether the solution should be an integer or a real number.  It would appear that something like "5.5>=y<=5.6" is intended and that would show an infinite number of real-numbered solutions and no "consecutive numbers" can be meaningful because there are always going to be an "infinite number of real-numbered solutions between any two real numbers".
