Problema Solution

Pure acid is to be added to a 10% acid solution to obtain 90L of 50% solution. What amounts of each should be used?

Answer provided by our tutors

let 'x' represent the amount of 10% acid solution, then '90-x' represents the amount of pure acid solution

the ratios are expressed in this equation:

0.50*90 = 0.10x + (90-x)

-------------------

solve for 'x'

-------------------

x=50

90-50 = 40

So 40L of pure acid solution should be added to 50L of 10% acid solution in order to produce 90L of 50% acid solution.
