Problema Solution
sandra rode her bike down the street at 8 miles per hour. three hours later, josh started at the same place and rode his bike toward her at 12 miles per hour. if sandra started riding at 1 p.m when did josh catch up to her?
Answer provided by our tutors
Let
v1 = 8 mph Sandra's speed
v2 = 12 mph Josh's speed
t = the of Sandra
t - 3 = the time of Josh (since he started ridding 3 hours later)
Using the formula distance = speed*time and the fact that they both rode the same distance we can write:
v1*t = v2(t - 3)
8t = 12(t - 3)

........
t = 9 hr
9 hours after 1 p.m is 10 p.m.
Josh caught up to Sandra at 10 p.m.
