Problema Solution

A grain barge travels on a river from Point A to Point B.The barge travels at a rate of 12 miles per hour relative to the water.The river flows downstream at a rate of 1 mile per hour.If the trip upstream takes two hours longer than the trip downstream, how far is it from point A to Point B?

Answer provided by our tutors

suppose the distance between A and B is x

it take t hours to trip downstream so it takes (t+2) to trip upstream

x = (12+1)t

x= (12-1)(t+2)

t = 11 hours

so the distance is  143 miles
