Problema Solution
A truck can be rented from Company A for $80 a day plus $.30 per mile. Company B charges $20 per day plus $.80 per mile. How many miles must be driven in a day to make the rental cost for Company A less than the rental cost for Company B?
Answer provided by our tutors
If we drive x miles on a rented car in a day, then
Company A will charge us 80+0.3x dollars
Company B will charge us 20+0.8x dollars
We want the amount charged by company A to be less than the amount charged by company B,
so
80 + 0.3x < 20+0.8x
0.3x - 0.8x < 20-80
-0.5 x < -60
x > -60/(-0.5)
x > 120
We have to drive more than 120 miles.
