Problema Solution

one brand of the car with a regular engine costs $21,500 to purchase, and 32 cents per mile to operate. the same car with a fuel-injection engine costs $22,500 to purchase and only 29 cents per mile to operate. if trey switches after miles, which car could be the most economical?

Answer provided by our tutors

let they switch after x miles.

regular engine car cost = 21500 + 0.32 x

fuel-injection car cost = 22500 + 0.29x

22500 + 0.29x = 21500 + 0.32x

=> 0.03x = 1000

=> x = 100000/3

upto 10^5 /3 miles regular car is economical and after that fuel-injection car is economical.
