Let length is Y ft.
Total length purchased = 100ft
The perimeter of the reactangle fence is equal to length of fencing purchased.
Perimeter of rectangle
= 2(width+length)
= 2(20+Y)
But perimeter of rectangle is same as purchased fencing.
2(20+Y) = 100
40+2Y = 100
2Y = 100-40
2Y = 60
Y = 60/2
Y = 30
So the length of the yard is 30ft.
