Problema Solution

Two factory plants are making TV panels. Yesterday, Plant A produced 300 fewer panels than Plant B did. Three percent of the panels from Plant A and two of the panels from Plant B were defective. How many panels did Plant B produce, if the two plants together produced 600 defective panels?

Answer provided by our tutors

We know that number of panels from factory A (A) is 300 less than number of panels in factory B (B)

So...

A = B - 300

we know that 3 % of A (or B-300) is defective, and 2% of B is defective, totalling 600...rewrite in terms of B

0.03(B-300) + 0.02(B) = 600

0.05B - 9 = 600

0.05B = 609

B = 12180

and A = B - 300

      A = 12180 - 300

      A = 11880

Factory A made 11880 panels, and Factory B made 12180
