Problema Solution

How many gallons of a 50% acid solution must be mixed with 80 gallons of a 10% acid solution to obtain a mixture that is 40% acid?

Answer provided by our tutors

To get 40% acid solution we use the following equation.

let 50% acid solution be x

we have to get 40% acid solution

(80*0.1)+(x*0.5)=0.4(80+x)

8+0.5*x=32+0.4*x

0.1*x=24

x=240

240 gallons of 50% acid solution is added to get 40% acid solution.
