Problema Solution

Thirty gallons of 20 percent acid solution are needed for an experiment. 40 percent and 10 percent afid solutions are available. How much of each should be used to for the needed solution?

Answer provided by our tutors

let 'x' represent the amount of 40% solution used, then '30-x' represents the amount of 10% solution used and we have:

0.2(30) = 0.4x + 0.1(30-x)

solving for 'x' we have x=10

30-10 = 20

10 gallons of 40% should be mixed with 20 gallons of 10%
