Problema Solution

To keep his baseball team hydrated daniel mixes a powdered sports drink w/cold water. For the best teaste the mix should be 96% water. If Daniel has used 16 scoops of powder and added 2 quarts of water, how many gallons of water shoudl he add, given that each scoop is 1/4 cup?

Answer provided by our tutors

4 cups = 1

16 * 1/4 = 4 cups of powder * 1 quart/4cups = 1 quart of powder

we want a ratio of 96:4 for water:power

let 'x' represent the additional amount, in quarts, of water that should be added:

96/4 = (x+2)/1

solving for 'x' we have x=22

22 quarts * 1 gallon/4 quarts = 5 1/2 gallons

Daniel should add an additional 5 1/2 gallons of water
