0.5 gal of stain that is 20% brown and 80% neutral that is:

0.2*0.5 = 0.1 gal brown

0.8*0.5 = 0.4 gal neutral

the ordered: 1.5 gal of stain should have 60% brown and 40% neutral that is

0.6*1.5 = 0.9 gal brown

0.4*1.5 = 0.6 gal neutral

This means that we should add

0.9 - 0.1 = 0.8 gal brown

0.6 - 0.4 = 0.2 gal neutral

the the original 0.5 gal in order to make up the order.
