we have to make some assumptions about the desired solution since the temperature is negative; if we convert to Kelvin then we get a positive temperature but the scaling will be such that 2.5 * temperature-in-Kelvin will convert back to something ridiculous in Celcius...
so we take 2.5*abs(-6.4) = 16
and state that the temperature will rise by 16-degrees, giving a temperature of:
-6.4 + 16. = 9.6
