Problema Solution
Two gardens are being fenced in. Both gardens will require the same amount of fencing (both gardens have the same perimeter in meters). One garden is in the shape of a square and the other is in the shape of a equilateral triangle. Each side of the triangle is 8 meters longer thn each side of the square. Find the dimensions of the garden?
Answer provided by our tutors
Let
s = the length of the side of the square
a = the length of the side of the equilateral triangle
Both gardens will require the same amount of fencing (both gardens have the same perimeter in meters)
4s = 3a
Each side of the triangle is 8 meters longer the each side of the square
a = s + 8
by solving the system of equations
4s = 3a
a = s + 8
we find
a = 32 m
s = 24 m

the dimension of the square garden is 24 meters.
the dimension of the triangle garden is 32 meters.
