in the period of a year,an investor lost twice as much as he gained.if he originally had $10,000 and now has $6000.what amount did he gain and what did he lose? solve and check show all work.

I assumed he lost first so I guessed 8,000 lost to give him 2,000. then he has to gain half back so he has to gain 4,000 which ends up making 6,000 which is what he ended with.
