Problema Solution
A rectangular park is 130 yards long and 100 yards wide.
Give the length and width of another rectangular park that has the same perimeter but a smaller area
Answer provided by our tutors
the perimeter of the first park is:
P1 = 2(130 + 100)
P1 = 460 yd
the area of the first park is:
A1 = 130*100
A1 = 13,000 yd^2
Example for another rectangular park that has the same perimeter but a smaller area:
w = 30 yd width
l = (1/2)(460 - 2*30)
l = 100 yd length
the area of this park is:
A2 = l*w
A2 = 100*30
A2 = 3,000 yd^2 smaller than 13,000 yd^2, the area of the first park.
