Problema Solution

A chemist has one solution that is 30% pure salt and another is 60% pure salt. How many ounces of each solution must he use to produce 60 ounces of a solution that is 50% pure salt?

Answer provided by our tutors

let

x = ounces of 30% pure salt

y = ounces of 60% pure salt

x + y = 60

0.30x + 0.60y = 0.50*60

by solving the above system of equations we find:

x = 20 oz

y = 40 oz
