Problema Solution
A cattle train left Bangalore and traveled toward the repair yard at an average speed of 40 mph. A passenger train left ten hours later and traveled in the same direction but with an average speed of 90 mph. Find the number of hours the cattle train traveled before the passenger train caught up.
Answer provided by our tutors
Let
t = the time that the cattle train traveled, t>0
t - 10 = the time that the passenger train traveled, t - 10>0, t>10
v1 = 40 mph the speed of the cattle train
v2 = 90 mph the speed of the passenger train
Since speed = distance/time follows distance = speed*time
v1t = v2*(t - 10)
40t = 90*(t - 10)
........
........
t = 18 hr
The cattle train traveled 18 hours.
