Problema Solution

Trains a and b are traveling in the same direction on parallel tracks. Train a is traveling at 100 miles per hour and train b is traveling at 110 miles per hour. train a passes the station at 6:25 pm. If train be passes the same station at 6:37 what time will train b catch us with train a

Answer provided by our tutors

Let

v1 = 100 mph the speed of train a

v2 = 110 mph the speed of train b

t = the time of train a (in hours)

t - (37 - 25)/60 = the time of train b

since speed = distance/time follows distance = speed*time

v1*t = v2*(t - (37 - 25)/60)

100t = 110*(t - (37 - 25)/60)

........

t = 11/5 hr

t = 2.2 hr

t = 2 hr 0.2*60 min

t = 2 hr 12 min

2 hr 12 min after 6:25 pm is 8:37 pm

The train b will catch up with train a at 8:37 pm.
