Problema Solution

350 students took geometry last year. Some intended to take algebra,

some trigonomety, and the rest were unsure what math course to take next. If three times as many students were planning to take algebra as trigonomety, and if 50 fewer were undecided than were preparing for trigonomety, how many students were of each type?

Answer provided by our tutors

a + t + u = 350

a = 3t

t - 50 = u

3t + t + (t - 50) = 350

5t - 50 = 350

5t = 400

t = 400/5 = 80 students intend to take trig

Replace t with 80. Solve for u and a.
