Two airplanes, flying at the right angles, leave the same airport at the same time. If the second airplane is twice as fast as the first and after 3 hours they are 750 kilometers apart, find the spped of each airplane.

let speed of 1st plane = x kmph
Speed of 2nd plane = 2x kmph
time = 3hrs
Distance travelled by 1st = 3x km
Distance (2nd) = 6x km
Using pythagoras thm,
(3x)^2 + (6x)^2 = (750)^2
9x^2 + 36x^2 = 562500
45 x^2 = 562500
x^2 = 12500
=> x = 1118.03 kmph
Speed of 1st = 1118.03 kmph
Speed of 2nd = 2236.06 kmph
