Problema Solution

Deon invested his savings in two investment funds. The amount he invested in Fund A was $4000 less than the amount he invested in Fund B. Fund A returned a 5% profit and Fund B returned a 2% profit. How much did he invest in Fund A, if the total profit from the two funds together was $780 ?

Answer provided by our tutors

Let amount invested in B = $x

Amount invested in A = $ x-4000

5% of x + 2 % of (x-4000) = 780

0.05 x + 0.02(x-4000) = 780

0.05 x + 0.02 x - 80 = 780

0.07 x = 860

x = 12285.71

Amount invested in A = x-4000 = $8285.71
