The speed of a passenger train is 6mph faster than the speed of a freight train. The passenger train travels 340 miles in the same time it takes the frieght train to travel 310 miles. Find the speed of each train.

we get the proportion
340/x+6 = 310/x
34/x+6 = 31/x
34x = 31x + 6*31
3x = 6*31
x = 62
x+6 = 62+6 = 68
