This week he worked a total of 36 hours and was paid $378.00. How many hours did he work as a salesperson, and how many hours did he do inventory?

then from given info. we have
9.25x + 11.5y = 378
and x + y = 36 ==> y= 36 -x
from eqn 1 with y=36 -x we get x =16 hrs.
So, y=36-16 = 20 hrs.
