The length of a rectangle is 8cm more than twice the width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 34cm. What is the length of the rectangle?

length = w + 8
p = 2*width + 2*length = 34
p = 2w + 2(w+8)
2w + 2w + 16 = 34
4w + 16 = 34
4w = 18
w = 4.5
so the width is 4.5 cm and the length is 4.5 + 8, or 12.5 cm
