When a group of people consisting of 52% males is joined with another group of people consisting of 48% males, the result is a group of 15,000 people consisting of 48.8% males. How many people were in the two groups that were joined?

now 52% are male in g1 and 48% in group 2
thus 0.52x+0.48y=0.488*15000
=> 0.52x+0.48y=7320--(1)

x+y=15000---(2)
=> x=15000-y
replace in (1)
0.52(15000-y)+0.48y=7320
=> 0.04y=480
=> y=12000
thus x=15000-12000=3000
