Problema Solution

two girls on bicycles start from the same place but travel in opposite direction. Carla bikes twice as fast as Dindi. If in 4 hours they are 36 kilometers apart, what is the rate of speed of each girl?

Answer provided by our tutors

Let

v = the rate of Dindi

2v = the rate of Carla

t = 4 hr the time of the travel

d = 36 km the distance between

Since distance = speed*time and the girls are traveling in opposite direction we have:

vt + 2vt = d

4v + 4*2v = 36

........

v = 3 km/h

2v = 2*3 = 6 km/h

Dindi's rate is 3 km/h while Carla's rate is 6 km/h.
