Problema Solution
Two hours after a bus left a station for Baguio at a speed of 40 kph, another bus left the same station traveling at a speed of 60 kph. How many hours will it take the second bus to overtake the first bus?
Answer provided by our tutors
Let
v1 = 40 kph
v2 = 60 kph
t = the time of the travel of the first bus
t - 2 = the time of the travel of the second bus (it left 2 hours later than the first bus). this is also the time the second bus needs to overtake the first bus.
Since distance = speed*time and both buses traveled the same distance we have:
v1t = v2(t - 2)
40t = 60(t - 2)

........
t = 6 hr
t - 2 = 6 - 2 = 4 hr
The second bus needs 4 hours to overtake the first bus.
