MATH 101.56 - COLLEGE ALGEBRA
Your third in-class exam will take place on Monday,
November 24, 2008,
and will cover material from sections 8.4 - 8.6, 9.1 - 9.6 and 11.1.
Don’t forget your calculator !!!
For this exam you need to be able to do the following:
• Chapter 8
– Be able to simplify an expression involving radicals.
– Be able to add and subtract expressions involving radicals.
– Be able to multiply expressions involving radicals.
– Be able to rationalize a denominator with one or two terms .
– Be able to write a radical as a complex number .
– Be able to add and subtract complex numbers .
– Be able to multiply complex numbers.
– Be able to divide complex numbers.
• Chapter 9
– Be able to solve a quadratic equation by factoring.
– Be able to solve a quadratic equation by completing the square.
– Be able to solve a quadratic equation by using the quadratic formula .
– Be able to use the discriminant to determine the type of solutions for a
quadratic equation.
– Be able to solve a word problem involving a quadratic equation.
– Be able to solve an equation involving radicals.
– Be able to solve a second degree inequality .
• Chapter 11
– Be able to find the composition of two functions .
– Be able to find the inverse of a function.
Make sure that you have looked at all the homework
questions that were
assigned. (Not just the ones that you handed in!) In addition, the following
are good review problems:
pg 313: 25 - 49 odd
pg 351: 1 - 21 odd, 27, 29, 33, 35
pg 438: 5 - 11 odd
