Problema Solution

The local tennis club offers two payment plans for its members. Plan 1 is a monthly fee of $29 plus a $12 per hour fee for court rental time. Plan 2 has no monthly fee, but court time costs $18.50 per hour. (Courts can only be rented on an hourly basis, no partial hours). How many court hours would someone have to rent per month so that plan 1 would be advantageous?

Answer provided by our tutors

Let 'x' represent the number of court hours rented per month, x is integer, x>=0.

Plan 1:

For x hours you will pay: 29 + 12x

Plan 2:

For x hours you will pay: 18.50x

Since Plan 1 is better we have the following inequality:

29 + 12x > 18.50

........

x < 4.46

x <= 4

Plan 1 is advantageous for no more than 4 hours.
