Course Syllabus for Basic Algebra II
Course Description: This course provides a solid
foundation in algebra for the purpose of preparing
students for credit mathematics courses. It covers equations, inequalities,
polynomials, graphing,
rational expressions , radicals with real applications integrated throughout.
Prerequisite: CPT (College Placement test) score between 45-71 or
successful completion of MAT0012
Co-requisite: SLS 1501 if not completed with MAT0012
Transferability: Not transferrable
Three Attempt Rule : Students may enroll in MAT 0012 a maximum of three
times. Students in
their third attempt will be charged full instructional costs due to Florida
legislation.
Course Learning Outcomes: As a result of taking this course, the student
will be able to
1. Solve linear equations with applications .
2. Graph linear equations by plotting points .
3. Perform ordinary operations with expressions containing integer exponents.
4. Factor a polynomial expression.
5. Solve a quadratic equation with applications.
6. Multiply, divide, and simplify rational expressions.
7. Simplify and perform ordinary operations with radical expressions .
8. Manipulate formulas using ordinary operations.
