Chapter Exam Review for MAT100 – Introductory Algebra

Chapter Learning Objectives:

In this chapter students will:
Factor out the GCF (greatest common factor ) of a given polynomial
Factor a polynomial by grouping
Factor a trinomial of the form : ax^2 + bx + c
Solve a quadratic equation by factoring
Solve a quadratic equation by using the quadratic formula
Determine what value(s) make a given rational expression or equation undefined
Simplify rational expressions
Add, subtract, multiply and divide rational expressions
Simplify rational expressions
Solve rational equations; be sure to check for extraneous solutions
Solve given proportions

Chapter Practice Exam:

This test (found at the end of every chapter) provides you an excellent opportunity to both practice and review for class exams. Take this test to see how
much of the chapter you have mastered and retained. Do the assigned practice exam problems and check your answers with those provided at the back
of the text to see whether you have correctly solved each problem; rework all problems that are incorrect. If you need to review any of these problems,
simply refer back to the chapter review section of the chapter on pages 405-407, 481-484, and 675.

Practice Chapter Test: pp. 409-410 #3-12 all, 15-28 all AND pp.485-486 #1-11 all, 16, 22 AND p.677 #10, 11
Chapter Test Date and Practice Chapter Test Due Date: ___________________________

Additional Practice : Chapter Review (optional): pp. 405-407, 481-484, and 675
Cumulative Reviews (optional): pp.181-182 and pp.487-489

Misc. Chapter Notes:

· Quadratic Formula:

once the equation is in quadratic form:  y = ax^2 + bx + c

Chapter Homework Assignments:

You learn math by doing math. The best way to learn math is to practice, practice, practice. The assigned homework examples provide you with an
opportunity to practice. Be sure to complete every assigned problem (or more if you need additional practice). Check your answers to the oddnumbered
problems in the back of the text to see whether you have correctly solved each problem; rework all problems that are incorrect.
