Intermediate Algebra Syllabus Evening Sections
FINAL EXAM DATE AND TIME: Monday, June 8, 3:15 p.m. -
5:15 p.m.
Following is a list of the sections to be covered in each class. The homework
assignments (listed immediately
after the section) should be completed as soon as the material is covered in
class. Do all of the assigned
problems. Write out the solutions showing all work, just as you would on a test.
It is very important that you do the homework
faithfully and carefully since you will have a quiz almost every day that there
is a homework assignment due.
QUIZZES: There are five (5) homework problems in each assignment which are
underlined and bold-faced.
These homework problems should be written up separately from the rest of your
homework. Your instructor
may choose to collect these problems instead of giving a quiz; your score on
these problems will count as the
quiz grade. There will be 12 ten (10) point quizzes that will come directly from
the homework assignments. You
may drop your 2 lowest quiz grades.
TESTS: ALL sections of MTH 126 take machine scored multiple choice tests
prepared by the mathematics
department. The evening section of MTH 126 has 3, 50 minute tests. IN ORDER TO
BE ALLOWED TO MAKE UP
A MISSED TEST YOU MUST:
1. HAVE A VALID, DOCUMENTED EXCUSE!
2. CONTACT YOUR INSTRUCTOR WITHIN 24 HOURS OF THE MISSED TEST.
3. MAKE UP THE TEST WITHIN 1 WEEK OF THE TEST DATE.
GRADING SCALE: The grading scale to be used on quizzes and exams is as follows:
A: 90 - 100
B: 80 – 89
C: 65 - 79
D: 55 - 64
F: < 55
GRADES: 3 tests: 15% each, Average of quizzes: 15%, Final exam: 40%
SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION (SI): SI will be offered several times
per week. You are strongly encouraged to
attend as many SI sessions as possible.
RE-TESTING: If you attend at least 4 SI sessions before a test and score
less than 65% on the test, you may take
a re-test. However, the maximum you may score on a re-test is 65%. You must
provide your instructor with
the dates that you attended SI and you must re-test within 1 week of the
original test date.
MATH LEARNING CENTER: The Math Learning Center is located in 031 Dunbar Library
and is open
M −TH: 9 − 5:50, F: 9 − 2:50
CALCULATORS : Only non- graphing calculators may be used in MTH 126. Cell
phones may not be used on
quizzes or exams.
ATTENDANCE: Since mastery of new mathematical conceptsdepends on mastery of
previous concepts , it is
essential that you attend every class. Attendance at every class is expected.
